Row for Charity

Row for Charity was started 15 years ago with teams rowing from Port St. Charles to Holetown to coincide with the Holetown Festival. The race was and still is a kayak relay race with 6 legs. In the early days each team would start at Port St. Charles, stop off at a bay and change over along the West Coast until reaching Holetown.

Twelve years ago the race was moved from the Port St. Charles location to the present one at Bay Street, in order to encourage more teams to participate and generate more team support on the beach.

♥ The relay starts at Harbour Lights and rows to the Yacht Club buoy.

♥ The second and fourth legs are from the Yacht Club buoy to the Boatyard buoy.

♥ The third and fifth legs are from the Boatyard buoy to the Yacht Club buoy. The 6th and final leg is from the Yacht Club buoy to the Boatyard buoy and back to the finish at Harbour Lights.

SINCE MOVING TO THE PRESENT LOCATION OUR TEAM PARTICIPATION HAS DOUBLED. SO MUCH SO THAT WE HAVE HAD TO INTRODUCE A SECOND RACE AND SPLIT THE TEAMS INTO EXPERIENCED “THE MOTOR MANIACS RACE” AND THE NEWCOMERS OR LESS EXPERIENCED “THE WIND WARRIORS RACE”. THIS YEAR WE HOPE TO SEE THE NUMBERS GROW EVEN LARGER.

Row for Charity is a fun filled event for both participants and supporters alike. There are small prizes from first to third place, most fun team, theme prizes as well as a last place prize. The last team is presented with a cou-cou stick that says “We got licks, Row for Charity” and is a prized possession for many teams who keep coming back to retain their last place position.

This year, we will have a Fun Fitness Challenge to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of the event and each team will be made up of 4 members. Children are invited to participate as well.

If you are interested in taking part in any of the races or making a donation please see our donation page.
