Row For Charity raises $40 000

ABOUT $40 000 was raised in the 18th annual Row For Charity competition yesterday at Harbour Lights, Bay Street, St Michael.

The competition, organised by Variety, The Children’s Charity, attracted 30 teams, all sponsored by businesses. The iMart Pharmacy team emerged champions.

President Jacqui McDermott said she was thankful for the usual support as the proceeds would be going to assist underprivileged and needy children.

Great fun

“To us, it’s a great fun event. It has to be a win for everybody and we find that bringing people together in a friendly competitive spirit always works. We get corporate Barbados involved, we get groups of friends involved; it’s just a really fun way to do something for others but enjoy yourself at the same time,” McDermott said.

Organiser and founder of the event, Gotzone Foster, said they added swimming this year, which was well received, and they would be looking to develop it further in the coming years.

“It continues to be the Row For Charity but today we introduced for the first time swimming. We began at 8 a.m. We had swim teams doing tag teams through Carlisle Bay. It was really beautiful because there were a lot of children involved so it was children helping children.” (DB)
